The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) is pleased to announce the installation of Ir Joseph CHOI Kin Hung as the 42nd President for Session 2016/2017 at the HKIE's 41st Annual General Meeting on 23 June 2016.
An HKIE fellow, Ir CHOI was elected Vice President in 2013 and further elected to be Senior Vice President in 2015. Other than serving in the Executive and Council, he had served on various Boards and Committees to contribute to the development of the Institution and to advance the interests of engineers and the engineering sector in Hong Kong.
Ir CHOI is a passionate engineer and management professional with a wealth of multi-dimensional and multi-functional experience spanning some 45 years in railway, infrastructure development, construction, project management and property development in Hong Kong, Macau, the Mainland of China, Taiwan and Singapore. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Aston in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Currently, Ir CHOI is an Executive Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Hsin Chong Group Holdings Limited and an Executive Director and Chairman of Synergis Holdings Limited. The Group is one of Hong Kong's oldest names in quality construction, project management and property and facility management. Under his leadership, the Group's construction business has grown many folds and expanded outside of Hong Kong, providing vast opportunities for Hong Kong engineers to take part in projects in and outside of the HKSAR.
Before joining Hsin Chong, Ir CHOI held General Manager positions at Hong Kong's two railway companies ― the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation and MTR Corporation ― where he was responsible for the design and construction of new railway lines. Both companies are recognised among the leading railways of the world. In his illustrious career, Ir CHOI has also held senior positions at a number of construction and property development companies.
Ir CHOI is active in professional and public service. At present, he is Vice Chairman of the Council of China's Foreign Trade, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; a fellow and a council member of the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation; and a member of the Infrastructure Development Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is also a member of the Departmental Advisory Committee for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
In applying himself and his professional and management expertise to the work of the HKIE in the coming year, Ir CHOI is focused on promoting the strength and cohesiveness of the engineering profession across all disciplines and encouraging opportunities for Hong Kong engineers to participate in the Belt & Road vision. As such, Session 2016/2017 has adopted the theme "Our Five O's: One Institution ⋅ One Profession ⋅ One Great Future ⋅ One Belt ⋅ One Road".
