The HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers is an international paper award organised by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) to encourage young engineers and researchers worldwide aged 35 or below to publish their works and advance in their professional fields and to promote engineering advancement.
Eligibility
- Sole or first author aged 35 or below, from local and overseas, on the closing date of submission.
- In the event of extension of submission deadline, author’s age will be considered according to the date of the original submission deadline (i.e. on 7 March 2022).
Judging criteria
All submissions will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Innovation and originality;
- Impact and significance;
- Presentation including paper organisation, methodology, critical analysis, quality, style, sources and language use
Selection process
- Each paper will be reviewed by two referees assigned by the judge of respective discipline of the Panel of Judges.
- Shortlisted papers will be further reviewed by the Panel of Judges.
- The Panel of Judges will conclude the final result.

Prizes
- Up to three Awards will be given
- Each prize comprises a plaque and certificate(s) and a cash prize of HK$5,000 for each awarded paper. Awards will be presented in the Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held in September 2022 (final arrangement to be confirmed)
- A Public Lecture will be held in Hong Kong for awardees to present their papers tentatively in Q4 2022
- The awarded and shortlisted papers will be published in the HKIE Transactions (Special Issue) in December 2022
Submission
- All submissions should be original works and have not been published or are not under consideration for publication elsewhere
- All paper submissions should be written in English
- All entries to the Award would also be treated as submissions to HKIE Transactions
- Each entry should be submitted via the HKIE Transactions ScholarOne Manuscripts site at:

Remarks
- Both HKIE members and non-HKIE members are welcome to submit papers to the Award.
- Application form should be completed, signed and submitted by the sole or first author.
- The sole or first author of the awarded paper will be invited to receive the prize at the Prize Presentation Ceremony and make a presentation at the Public Lecture which will be held in Hong Kong. Each author (including the sole or first author and co-authors) will receive a certificate for each awarded paper.
- The Panel of Judges of the Award reserves all the right on the final decision including not to make any Award. The Panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
