The HKIE Prize for Outstanding Engineering Students
Aims
The Prize is introduced
- to recognise the engineering students of Higher Diploma and Associate Degree courses with excellent academic achievements;
- to encourage them to pursue their careers in engineering profession;
- to promote the HKIE to students of Higher Education; and
- to encourage our aspiring engineers to participate actively in the HKIE activities.
Awards
The Prize will be awarded to a maximum of ten engineering students of Higher Diploma and Associate Degree courses. Each successful candidate will receive a certificate and a cash prize of HK$5,000.
Eligibility
Candidate should:
- be a student studying any Higher Diploma or Associate Degree engineering programme accredited/recognised by the HKIE in a local higher education institution. However, each student is eligible for the Prize only once in his/her lifetime;
- have outstanding academic results;
- be a Student Member of the HKIE or in the process of application for student membership;
- have strong leadership ability demonstrated in his/her extra-curricular activities and community service;
- be recommended by the Head of Engineering Department of the higher education institution.
Application Procedures
- The higher education institutions offering engineering Higher Diploma or Associate Degree as accredited/recognised by the HKIE will be invited to make nominations for the Prize.
- Nominations should only be made by the Head of Engineering Department of the higher education institution. Each higher education institution can nominate a maximum of five candidates.
- Nominations must be submitted together with
- a statement of recommendation by the Head of Engineering Department who is in support of the nomination;
- copy/ies of the candidate’s academic results at the higher education institution; and
- copy/ies of the candidate's HKDSE results or equivalent.
- Nomination Form(s) must be completed and returned to the HKIE on or before Thursday, 28 March 2024.
Selection Procedures
- A Judging Panel composed of senior members of the HKIE will be set up to short-list and interview eligible candidates.
- The selection criteria will be based on the candidate’s
- HKDSE results or equivalent;
- Academic results at the higher education institution;
- Participation in extra-curricular activities/community services;
- Enthusiasm in pursuing a career in engineering profession; and
- Performance at the interview.
- Candidates will be short-listed and invited for an interview in May/June 2024. Candidates not invited for interview by July 2024 shall consider that their application not successful.
- The HKIE reserves the right to reject or disqualify any application. The decision of the HKIE Judging Panel will be final. In the event of their being unable to find candidates of sufficient merit, they may withhold all or any of the awards at their absolute discretion.
Announcement of the Results
The higher education institutions and the individual awardees will be notified of the results in September 2024.
Presentation of Awards
A certificate and a cash prize of HK$5,000 will be awarded to each successful candidate.
The Engineering Department of the higher education institution shall also announce names and relevant information of their students who are awarded the HKIE Prize for Outstanding Engineering Students on their website for public access, including photos taken at the award presentation ceremony which will be provided by the HKIE.
