Please be informed that the Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination) will be held this Saturday. Details of the Seminar are as follows:

The HKIE secretariat has sent out an email informing all registrants for the Preparatory Seminar about the registration result. Please click here for the list of successful registrants (with some information masked due to privacy issues). Candidates who failed to register for the Seminar will not be charged.

Please note that successful registration for the Seminar does not imply successful application for the Structural Examination. Eligible applicants for the Examination will be informed of a detailed examination schedule three weeks before the date of the Examination which will be held on 28 November 2023.

Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination)
We are pleased to announce that a Preparatory Seminar will be organised to help candidates prepare for the upcoming HKIE Structural Examination. The speakers will be the Chief Examiners of the Written Examination. Details of the Seminar are as follows:

Candidates who wish to join the Seminar are required to return the completed reply form and payment form by email to the HKIE (eq@hkie.org.hk) on or before Tuesday, 17 October 2023. The Seminar is open to all, but priority will be given to candidates who have applied for the upcoming Examination. Registration for the Seminar will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis as limited seats are available.
Registrants for the Preparatory Seminar will receive an email about the registration result on 19 October 2023. A list of successful applicants (with personal information masked) will also be posted on this webpage. Please contact the External Qualifications Section by phone at 2830 9098 if you have registered for the Seminar but have not heard from us by the aforementioned date.

NOTICE OF THE SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING (SGM)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Special General Meeting of the Control, Automation & Instrumentation (CA) Division will be held on Wednesday, 6 September 2023 at 6:30pm at Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, the HKIE Headquarters, 9/F Island Beverley, No 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong for the following purpose:
- To conduct an election to fill the vacancy occur in the office of the Ordinary Member of the Committeeunder Clause 7.2(c)of the Division Rules
In case of adjournment of the SGM, members of the Division shall check on the Institution’s website at http://www.hkie.org.hk and the Division’s website at http://ca.hkie.org.hk of the revised venue, time and date for the adjourned SGM.

Nominations for Ordinary Member under Clause 7.2(c) of the Division Rules
Ir Prof Louis F S LOCK tendered his resignation as the Ordinary Member of the Committee under Clause 7.2(c) of the Division Rules. Following his resignation, there is one vacancy for the Ordinary Member.
To fill the vacancy, the Division Committee has decided to nominate Ir Prof GE Ming for the Ordinary Member for a three-year term.
No other nomination has been received from members by the nomination deadline.

Application for the HKIE Structural Examination
The HKIE Structural Examination
The Institution is pleased to announce that the coming Written Examination of the HKIE Structural Examination will be held on 28 November 2023 (Tuesday) at AsiaWorld-Expo (亞洲國際博覽館).
The HKIE Structural Examination has the following features:-
- It consists of two parts: (a) a Written Examination and (b) an Interview.
- The Written Examination consists of two sections in the form of (a) Multiple Choice Questions (one hour) and (b) Design Questions (six hours).
- Passing the Written Examination is not a pre-requisite for taking the Interview or vice versa.
Candidates who wish to apply for or resit the HKIE Structural Examination must submit the relevant application form and fees by post or in person by 7:00 pm, 31 August 2023 (Thursday). Applications that do not reach the Institution by the above application deadline will not be considered.

The Council at its meeting held on 19 January 2023 approved the Procedures and Schedule for Vice President (VP) Nomination for Session 2023/2024.
There will be one vacant post of VP and the nomination period is now open. The requirements of VP as stipulated in Article 16 Clause (b) of the Constitution are extracted below:
“The Vice Presidents shall be nominated by the Council from among the Fellows who have been Council Members for at least two years for election by Corporate Members on the day of the Annual General Meeting. …”
Each nomination shall be delivered to the Chief Executive and Secretary by completing the Nomination Form for election of VP for Session 2023/2024. Candidate shall also submit the following supplementary information on a single sided A4 paper for circulation to Council Members for consideration:
- personal information
- present position or occupation and brief work history
- membership and offices (present and/or former) held in the Institution
- a brief supporting statement
The original signed copy of the Nomination Form together with the supplementary information of the Candidate must be delivered to the Chief Executive and Secretary on or before Friday, 10 March 2023 at 5:30pm at:

Further information regarding the VP nomination and election can refer to the different guidelines in the Member Login Area of the HKIE website.
To better control over the total time allocated for the Professional Assessment (PA), applicants have to attend the PA within the specified time frame which will be notified to applicants in the PA process. Applicants will be charged the application fee and PA fee if the Membership application is rejected due to the fact that the applicants do not attend the PA within the specific time frame. Applicants will need to submit a fresh application with the required submission and fees if they would like to apply again.
The above arrangement applies to all new and resit applications for the class of Member which submitted on or after 1 January 2023 via all routes to Membership which require PA.
