HKIE Structural Examination 2022/2023

Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination)

 

We are pleased to announce that a Preparatory Seminar will be organised to help candidates prepare for the upcoming HKIE Structural Examination.  The speakers will be the Chief Examiners of the Written Examination.  Details of the Seminar are as follows:

 

Date: 22 October 2022 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon (Registration starts at 09:15 am)
Venue: Chamber 3, InnoCentre, 72 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon
Registration Fee#: HK$200
Quota: 100 (Walk-in registration is NOT available)

#The fee is non-refundable/ non-transferrable under any circumstances.

 

Registration

 

Candidates who wish to join the Seminar must register by returning the completed reply form and payment form of HK$200 by email to the HKIE (eq@hkie.org.hk) on or before Tuesday, 18 October 2022.  The Seminar is open to all, but priority will be given to candidates who have applied for the upcoming Examination.  The registration for the Seminar will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis as limited seats are available.

 

Reply Form for Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination)

 

A confirmation email will be sent to the successful applicants for the Seminar by 19 October 2022.  Presentation of the confirmation email at the Registration Counter is required.

Please note that successful registration for the Seminar does not imply successful application for the Structural Examination.  Eligible applicants for the Examination will be informed of a detailed examination schedule three weeks before the date of the Examination which will be held on 21 November 2022.

 

Precaution measures

 

To minimise the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19, the anti-infection precaution measures at the venue are as follows:

  • Temperature screenings are conducted before entering the venue, anyone with high temperature and/or fever detected is not allowed to enter the venue
  • All participants are required to complete a health declaration form before entering the venue
  • All participants must meet the latest requirements of “Vaccine Pass” and use the “LeaveHomeSafe” Mobile App for scanning the venue QR codes OR provide Venue Users’ Record and Electronic Vaccination and Testing (EVT) Scanning before entering the venue.  Participants with Red Code or Amber Code are not allowed to enter the venue
  • All participants are required to wear a face mask
  • Hand sanitiser is available at the Registration Counter
  • All participants should be seated according to the pre-arranged seats in view of social distancing measures
  • No eating and drinking is allowed inside the venue

Application for the HKIE Structural Examination

 

The HKIE Structural Examination

 

The Institution is pleased to announce that the coming Written Examination of the HKIE Structural Examination will be held on 21 November 2022 (Monday) at AsiaWorld-Expo (亞洲國際博覽館).

 

Candidates passing the HKIE Structural Examination and meeting the experience requirements will be eligible to become a Corporate Member of the HKIE in the Structural Discipline.

 

The HKIE Structural Examination has the following features:-

 

  1. It consists of two parts: (a) a Written Examination and (b) an Interview.
  2. The Written Examination consists of two sections in the form of (a) multiple choice questions (one hour) and (b) design questions (six hours).
  3. Passing the Written Examination is not a pre-requisite for taking the Interview or vice versa.

 

Candidates who wish to apply for or resit the HKIE Structural Examination must submit the relevant application form and fees by post or in person by 7:00 pm, 31 August 2022 (Wednesday).  Applications that do not reach the Institution by the above application deadline will not be considered.

Revised professional assessment fees for candidates applying for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination) 2022

The HKIE Structural Examination consists of two parts, namely Written Examination and Interview.  Candidates applying for the Structural Examination are required to pay a professional assessment fee in order to take part in both Written Examination and Interview.

 

The Council, at its meeting dated 12 May 2022, approved to revise the professional assessment fees for candidates applying for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination) 2022 and onwards to cover additional costs arising from the organisation and arrangement of the Written Examination. 

 

The new professional assessment fees apply to the following types of candidates:

 

  1. New candidates applying for first attempting HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination and Interview);
  2. Existing candidates resitting both Written Examination and Interview; and
  3. Existing candidates resitting the Written Examination only.

Notice of the Special General Meeting (SGM) of Control, Automation & Instrumentation (CA) Division

NOTICE OF THE SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING (SGM)

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Special General Meeting of the Control, Automation & Instrumentation (CA) Division will be held on Thursday, 11 August 2022 at 6:30pm at Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, the HKIE Headquarters, 9/F Island Beverley, No 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong for the following purpose:

 

  • To conduct an election to fill the vacancy occur in the office of the Chairman for Session 2022/2023

Nomination for Chairman

 

Ir Prof SUN Dong was elected as the Chairman for Session 2022/2023 at the Annual General Meeting of the Division held on 1 June 2022.

 

Ir Prof SUN Dong tendered his resignation as the Chairman for Session 2022/2023 subsequently.  Following the resignation of Ir Prof SUN Dong, there is one vacancy for the Chairman of Session 2022/2023.

 

To fill this vacancy, the Division Committee has decided to nominate Ir Dr GE Ming as the Chairman of Session 2022/2023.

 

No other nomination has been received from members by the nomination deadline.

Professional Assessment Schedule of Civil Discipline

The HKIE has been accepting applications for Membership in Civil (CVL) Discipline via Formal Training Route and General Experience Route once a year following a fixed schedule.

 

In order to allow greater flexibility for applicants to schedule their applications for HKIE Membership as and when they are ready, applications for Membership in CVL Discipline via all admission routes (including Formal Training Route, General Experience Route, Mature Route, Reciprocal Recognition Agreement Route and others) are now accepted throughout the year.

 

In this light, the Professional Assessments via all admission routes will be conducted throughout the year upon the candidates’ applications with proper submissions.

Resit of Assessment Interview for Associate Membership

The Qualification and Membership Board on 4 January 2022 approved the four-year resit period for the resit applications for Associate Membership:

 

  1. Candidates who failed in the first attempt of the Assessment Interview and wish to apply for a resit have to make the request within 4 years. The 4-year period is counted from the date of the HKIE notification letter of the first assessment result.

 

  1. Candidates who are not able to pass the Assessment Interview within the specified period stated above shall be required to submit a new application and to take the Assessment Interview. Candidates shall be required to:
    • fill in a new application form;
    • fulfil the supporter requirement;
    • submit all documents* as required in a new application;
    • sit for an Assessment Interview; and
    • pay the application and other relevant fees.

 

* Candidates are required to update the application in accordance with the comments received.

 

  1. The above arrangement applies to Associate Membership applications submitted on or after 5 January 2022 via the following routes:
    • General Experience Route
    • Formal Training Route
    • Mature Route

  2. For the previous candidates of fail cases, they should apply for resit on or before 30 June 2022 if they wish to resit for the Assessment Interview. Any resit applications received by the HKIE after 30 June 2022 will not proceed

Electronic Membership Card for Graduate Members, Companions and Affiliates

The HKIE issued electronic membership card (e-membership card) to Student Members to replace physical membership card starting from April 2021. With the positive feedback from members, the HKIE is pleased to extend this service of e-membership card for members in the classes of Graduate Member, Companion and Affiliate from the financial year of 2022-2023. 

 

The e-membership card will be available five working days after the successful settlement of the membership subscription of the financial year. Members may retrieve the e-membership card online in the Member Login area on our website www.hkie.org.hk.
