Electronic Membership Card for Student Members

The HKIE is pleased to introduce a new service of electronic membership card (e-membership card) for all Student Members to replace physical membership card.  Student Members may view the e-membership card online in the Member Login area on our website www.hkie.org.hk.

 

The e-membership card of Student Members under the Free Student Membership Scheme will be renewed automatically in March every year during the period of the Scheme. 

 

For Student Members who received the payment advice of membership subscription for the financial year 2021-2022 in February, the e-membership card will be available five working days after the successful settlement of the membership subscription.

Headquarters Arrangement due to COVID-19

In view of the latest development of the COVID-19 epidemic, the capacity of meeting facilities in the HKIE headquarters are reduced according to the related regulations imposed by the Government. Activities to be organized in the headquarters, including meetings, seminars, workshops, etc, are encouraged to be arranged in online format, e.g. Zoom meeting or webinar, so as to reduce the number of people gathered and to reduce the risk of spreading of the virus. Meanwhile, any persons visiting the headquarters of the Institution are required to wear masks and measure your body temperature before entering into the headquarters.

Nomination for election of Vice President for Session 2021/2022

Nomination for election of Vice President for Session 2021/2022

 

The Council at its meeting held on 14 January 2021 approved the Procedures and Schedule for Vice President (VP) Nomination for Session 2021/2022.

 

There will be one vacant post of VP and the nomination period is now open.  The requirements of VP as stipulated in Article 16 Clause (b) of the Constitution are extracted below:

 

The Vice Presidents shall be nominated by the Council from among the Fellows who have been Council Members for at least two years for election by Corporate Members on the day of the Annual General Meeting. …

 

Each nomination shall be delivered to the Chief Executive and Secretary by completing the Nomination Form for election of VP for Session 2021/2022.  Candidate shall also submit the following supplementary information on a single sided A4 paper for circulation to Council Members for consideration:

 

  • personal information
  • present position or occupation and brief work history
  • membership and offices (present and/or former) held in the Institution
  • a brief supporting statement

 

The original signed copy of the Nomination Form together with the supplementary information of the Candidate must be delivered to the Chief Executive and Secretary on or before Monday, 15 March 2021 at 5:30pm at:

HKIE Structural Examination 2020/2021

Update on the HKIE Structural Examination

(Last Update: 16 October 2020)

 

The AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) will NOT be available for hosting the coming Written Examination as the Hong Kong Government decided to extend their anti-epidemic operations in the AWE.  Having considered by the Examination Board, the examination venue of the coming Written Examination on 30 November 2020 will be changed to the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre (九龍灣國際展貿中心).

 

Eligible candidates for the Examination will be informed of the detailed examination schedule three weeks before the date of the Written Examination which will be held on 30 November 2020.

 

In view of the situation of COVID-19, special arrangements will be implemented in the Written Examination.  The candidates are urged to pay attention to the details of the notification to be sent with the eligibility letter.

 


Update on the HKIE Structural Examination

Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination)

 

We are pleased to announce that the HKIE Structural Division is going to organise a Preparatory Seminar which aims to better equip candidates who have applied for the coming HKIE Structural Examination.  The speakers will be the Chief Examiners of the Written Examination.  Details of the Seminar are as follows:

 

Date: 24 October 2020

Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 noon (Registration starts at 09:15 am)

Venue: Wang Gungwu Lecture Hall, Graduate House, No. 3 University Drive, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Registration Fee: HK$150

Quota: 130 (Walk-in registration is NOT available)

 

Candidates who wish to join the Seminar must register by returning the completed reply form by fax or email to the HKIE together with a payment of HK$150 on or before Friday, 16 October 2020.  The Seminar is open to all, but priority will be given to candidates who have applied for the Examination. The registration for the Seminar will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis as limited seats available.

 

Reply Form for Preparatory Seminar for the HKIE Structural Examination (Written Examination)

 

A confirmation email will be sent to the successful applicants for the Seminar by 21 October 2020.  Presentation of the confirmation email for registration is required.

 

Please note that successful registration for the Seminar does not imply successful application for the Structural Examination.  Eligible applicants for the Examination will be informed of the detailed examination schedule three weeks before the date of the Examination that is scheduled to be held on Monday, 30 November 2020.

 

To minimise the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19, the followings are the anti-infection precaution measures for the Seminar:

 

  • Temperature screenings are conducted before entering the venue, anyone with high temperature and/or fever detected may not enter the venue
  • All participants of the Seminar are required to wear a face mask at the venue
  • Hand sanitiser is available at the Registration Counter
  • Social distancing measures have been implemented, all participants of the Seminar are seated according to the pre-arranged seats
  • Eating and drinking are not allowed at the venue

Application for the HKIE Structural Examination

 

The HKIE Structural Examination

 

The Institution is pleased to announce that the coming Written Examination of the HKIE Structural Examination will be held on Monday, 30 November 2020 at AsiaWorld-Expo (亞洲國際博覽館).

 

Candidates passing the HKIE Structural Examination and meeting the experience requirements will be eligible to become a Corporate Member of the HKIE in the Structural Discipline.

 

The HKIE Structural Examination has the following features:-

 

  1. It consists of two parts: (a) a Written Examination and (b) an Interview.
  2. The Written Examination consists of two sections in the form of (a) multiple choice questions (one hour) and (b) design questions (six hours).
  3. Passing the Written Examination is not a pre-requisite for taking the Interview or vice versa.

 

Candidates who wish to apply for or resit the HKIE Structural Examination must submit the relevant application form and fees by post or in person by 7:00 pm, 31 August 2020 (Monday).  Applications do not reach the Institution by the above application deadline will not be considered.

Notice of the Special General Meeting (SGM) of Control, Automation & Instrumentation Division

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Special General Meeting of the Control, Automation & Instrumentation (CA) Division will be held on Thursday, 15 October 2020 at 6:30pm at Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, the HKIE Headquarters, 9/F Island Beverley, No 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong for the following purpose:

 

  • To conduct an election to fill the two vacancies occur in the office of the Ordinary Member of the Committeeunder Clause 7.2(c)of the Division Rules

 

In case of adjournment of the SGM, members of the Division shall check on the Institution’s website at http://www.hkie.org.hk and the Division’s website at http://ca.hkie.org.hk of the revised venue, time and date for the adjourned SGM.

 

Members are reminded that if you come to the Headquarters to attend the SGM, you are advised to wear a surgical mask.

Nominations for Ordinary Members under Clause 7.2(c) of the Division Rules

 

In accordance with Clause 7.2(c) of the Division Rules, each current Division Committee shall comprise 6 to 14 Ordinary Members.  Whilst there are 13 Ordinary Members serving the CA Division Committee, the Division Committee has decided to opt for the maximum of 14 Ordinary Members. 

 

Together with the vacancy arising from the resignation of Ir Curie LEE Chi Kit, there will be two seats for election for the post of the Ordinary Members. 

 

To fill these vacancies, the Division Committee has decided to nominate the following two candidates for election: Ir LEE Ping Kuen and Ir Giselle YIP Chung Wa.

 

No other nomination has been received from members by the nomination deadline.
