Chairman's Message

It is my great honour and privilege to serve as Chairman of the Control, Automation, and Instrumentation Division (CAD) for Session 2026/2027.

We are living in an era where technological advancements are transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. Artificial Intelligence, robotics, autonomous systems, industrial digitalisation, smart manufacturing, and cyber-physical systems are reshaping the way we live and work. As a cornerstone of these developments, the fields of control, automation and instrumentation have become increasingly critical in driving innovation, enhancing productivity, and supporting sustainable development. The CAD has long played a pivotal role in promoting professional excellence, technical advancement, and knowledge exchange among practitioners, academics, researchers, and young engineers. Building upon the strong foundation established by our predecessors, the Division will continue to foster a vibrant professional community and provide valuable opportunities for lifelong learning, networking, and collaboration.

During the 2026/2027 Session, our focus will be on strengthening industry engagement, nurturing future engineering talent, and facilitating the adoption of emerging technologies. We will organise a diverse range of technical seminars, industrial visits, professional development activities, and collaborative events with local, Mainland, and international organisations. Through these initiatives, we aim to enhance members’ technical competencies while promoting innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.  As Hong Kong continues to pursue its vision of becoming an international innovation and technology hub, engineers have a vital role to play in supporting smart city development, advanced manufacturing, digital transformation, sustainable infrastructure, and the emerging low-altitude economy. The CAD stands ready to contribute its expertise and provide a platform for thought leadership and professional exchange in these rapidly evolving domains.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Division Committee members, volunteers, past chairmen, and all members for their continuous support and dedication. I look forward to working closely with all of you to advance the objectives of the Division and to create meaningful value for the engineering profession and the wider community.
