Chairman's Message

Dear Members of the IT Division,

It is a great honor to assume the Chairmanship of the IT Division for the 2026/2027 session. I express my sincere gratitude to our Past Chairmen and Committee Members for their dedication, with special thanks to our Immediate Past Chairman, Ir Dr Vincent Ng, To-yee, for his exemplary leadership in engineering education.

Carrying Forward Our Legacy, Embracing New Challenges

Since 1990, the IT Division has become a prominent pillar of the HKIE. Over the decades, we have organized numerous seminars, technical visits, and conferences spanning telecommunications, software engineering, and logistics. Our committee members consistently contribute expertise to advisory bodies, shaping industry standards to benefit the wider community. Building on this strong foundation, I am eager to guide the Division toward new horizons.

Driving Strategic Priorities Through Technology

As Hong Kong transforms into an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub, our Division will actively align with the city’s strategic priorities. We will champion emerging technologies—such as Agentic AI, advanced cybersecurity, and cloud automation—that redefine operational efficiency. While AI is being rapidly deployed by local enterprises at rates surpassing global averages, our profession must proactively address the resulting governance challenges.

Central to our focus is the “Northern Metropolis” development, a flagship project driving economic growth and Greater Bay Area (GBA) integration. With the Government prioritizing AI, life and health technology, and robotics, our Division will contribute through technical exchanges and strategic partnerships to support this vision.

Our Core Pillars: Ecosystem and Talent Development

We remain committed to two core pillars:

• Enhancing the I&T Ecosystem: We will organize high-quality seminars and industrial visits focusing on AI and cybersecurity, while forging deep partnerships with local, GBA, and international tech leaders.
• Talent Development: We will continue collaborating on STEM programmes for youth and coordinating professional development seminars to support your career growth.
