Programme Highlights:
This seminar explores the transformative applications of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR) in modern medicine. The talk will cover cutting-edge topics including AI-enhanced Meridian Acupoint Diagnostics using 3D Augmented Reality models, high-precision robotic surgery supported by advanced medical imaging and 3D planning, and reformed medical training through realistic ultrasound-visible 3D-printed anatomical phantoms. Participants will discover how these innovations are improving surgical accuracy, patient safety, and healthcare education in Hong Kong public hospitals.

Speaker
Ir Dr Carrison K.S. Tong, Medical Physicist & PACS Manager, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital, Hospital Authority
Ir Dr Tong has been serving as a Medical Physicist since 1996 and specializes in medical imaging, 3D modelling, and innovative healthcare technologies. He led the development of Hong Kong’s first filmless hospital (Tseung Kwan O Hospital, 1999–2003) and established the Surgical Virtual Reality Laboratory in 2007. His pioneering work in 3D printing for clinical applications—including ultrasound-visible anatomical models with tactile realism, AR acupuncture training models, and 3D-assisted procedures for brain aneurysm, cranioplasty, robotic partial nephrectomy and thoracentesis—has won multiple international and local awards, including the 2024 Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Award (Innovative E-Health Solutions, Public Sector) and the 2023 HKIE Grand Award (Industrial Category). Dr Tong holds a PhD in Medical Imaging from Imperial College London and is a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He is also a Chartered Engineer who has published over 40 papers and a book on the Governance of Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).
