The year 2025 sees the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), and 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Biomedical Discipline in HKIE. I feel honoured to be elected as the Chairman of the Biomedical Division (BMD) for the Session 2025/2026, to wend and witness the journey with my fellow engineers across these memorable milestones.
Engineering touches people’s everyday life. As biomedical engineers, we serve to enhance people’s health and well-being by applying engineering principles for medical purposes. Compared to other professionals, biomedical engineers may be small in number, but we are never alone in our quest for technological excellence. Because of its inter-disciplinary nature, diversity of applications, and rapidity in advancement, biomedical engineering is one of the professions which often conceive innovations and new technologies. BMD would continue to attract new blood, muster biomedical engineering experts, connect academia, trades and industries, liaise with the public sector, and outreach mainland counterparts with a view to fostering a healthy growth of biomedical engineering profession, as well as driving the smart and sustainable application of innovations and technologies (I&T) in the Greater Bay Area and worldwide.
