It is a great honour and privilege to serve as Chairman of the Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems (MIS) Division for the 2026/2027 Session. On behalf of the Division, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our Past Chairpersons for their exemplary leadership, our Committee Members for their dedication and support, and all members whose professionalism and expertise continue to drive the Division forward.
As highlighted in the Public Consultation Document for the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026–2030), innovation, technology and industrial development are central to Hong Kong’s future. The vision of developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub, advancing the Northern Metropolis, and further strengthening integration with the Greater Bay Area presents significant opportunities for professionals in MIS engineering.
At the national level, China is entering a new phase of high-quality development under the 15th Five-Year Plan. Key priorities include developing New Quality Productive Forces, advancing the AI Plus initiative, fostering strategic emerging and future industries, strengthening advanced manufacturing, and building a modern industrial system powered by innovation, digitalisation, intelligence, and sustainability.
The MIS engineering landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), advanced analytics, and systems integration are redefining how organisations create value. Future engineers will need not only strong technical expertise, but also data literacy, systems thinking, innovation capabilities, interdisciplinary collaboration skills, and a commitment to the responsible application of emerging technologies.
As the professional home of MIS engineering practitioners, our Division aspires to be a leading platform connecting industry, academia, government, and young professionals. Through technical seminars, industry forums, technical visits, networking events, student and young engineer programmes, Greater Bay Area exchanges, and our annual symposium, we will continue to advance engineering excellence, foster collaboration, and support Hong Kong’s industrial development.
Looking ahead, I am confident that, together, we can strengthen our profession, inspire future generations, and contribute meaningfully to Hong Kong’s development as a world-class innovation and technology hub while supporting the nation’s vision of high-quality development.
