The Young Members Committee (YMC) is responsible to the Learned Society Board for the promulgation of activities of a technical and social nature for the Registered Young Members (RYMs), defined as members of the Institution who are at or below the age of 35 and registered under YMC.
Aims
1 | To organise technical meetings, visits and other events for the benefit of the RYMs. |
2 | To organise social functions for RYMs with a view to increasing their awareness of the engineering profession and the Institution. |
3 | To encourage RYMs to participate in Institution affairs. |
4 | To encourage students and graduates in Engineering and related disciplines to join the Institution. |
5 | To undertake such other activities as may further the aims and objectives of the Institution with particular regard to its RYMs. |
The YMC has 12 Working Groups to achieve the above aims and to benefit our RYMs.

VG | Visits Group | To organise visits of a multi-disciplinary nature with main focuses on technical aspects |
IAG | Internal Affairs Group | To support the events of HKIE, including but not limited to HKIE’s 50th Anniversary events |
CSG | Community Services Group | To promote members’ awareness in society through participation in community services |
PRG | Public Relations Group | To promote the image of Young Engineers through interaction with local, Mainland and overseas professional groups |
SRG | Sports & Recreation Group | To promote members’ interests in the fellowship amongst all classes of members and their awareness of health and sports |
SCAG | Social, Culture & Arts Group | To promote members’ interests in the Institution and fellowship amongst all classes of members through organisation of social culture & arts events |
PWG | Publicity & Webmaster Group | To promote YMC and activities organised by the Committee and members |
SEG | Special Events Group | To identify and coordinate with RYMs and Working Groups and to organise special events |
HRG | Human Resources Group | To monitor feedback of events from RYMs, recruit new helpers, upkeep the helper database |
