Chairman's Message

It is with great privilege and responsibility that I assume the role of Chairman of the HKIE’s Civil Division. The work of our civil engineers forms the very bedrock of Hong Kong’s prosperity, resilience, and sustainable future.

Our city is in a period of remarkable transformation. From the Northern Metropolis to enhancing climate resilience, the demand for innovative infrastructure has never been greater. The Civil Division is central to this endeavour, ensuring projects are safe, efficient, sustainable, and transformative.

To meet these challenges, our focus will be built on three core pillars:

1. Championing Excellence and Lifelong Learning: We will elevate our profession by curating top-tier Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, including technical seminars, conferences and visits and facilitating knowledge exchange to ensure our members are equipped with future-ready skills and global best practices.

    

2. Advocating for Impact and Sustainable Development: We will be vocal champions for the value of civil engineering. A key initiative is launching our inaugural Civil Engineering Project Excellence Award to celebrate projects that exemplify innovation, sustainability, and outstanding professional achievement.

    

3. Nurturing Our Future Leaders: We will intensify efforts to inspire the next generation by enhancing mentorship, supporting young members, and promoting diverse career paths. A highlight will be the Mainland China-Hong Kong Young Civil Engineers Exchange Camp, fostering collaboration for our emerging talent.

The scale of our tasks is significant, but it is matched by the immense talent within our community. I urge every member to engage: participate in events, share insights, and mentor a colleague. To our industry partners, I extend a hand for strengthened collaboration. By working cohesively and upholding our values, the Civil Division will continue to be a driving force in building a smarter, safer, greener, and more resilient Hong Kong.
