Engineering and Construction Industry under COVID-19(疫情下的工程生計)

Introduction: The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) has hit the economies of Hong Kong and worldwide severely including the engineering and construction industry. Despite the recent improving statistics on the infection, the construction market has yet to be recovered and thousands of engineer’s livelihoods are being affected. In this forum, Ir Dr the Hon Lo Wai Kwok, Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, representing the Engineering Functional Constituency, will update us on:

  • the impact of COVID-19 on the engineering and construction industry
  • the status of the public funding approval on infrastructure projects
  • Government supports to the industry

Programme Highlights: Apart from the informative session, a forum session will be held to welcome participants to share their thoughts and views on the above and invite suggestions to improve the situation.

Speaker: Ir Dr the Hon Lo Wai Kwok was President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 2007/08. WK is currently Member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, representing the Engineering Functional Constituency. He is Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee. He also serves as Chairman of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong, Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, member of the Housing Authority, the Hospital Authority, the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Airport Authority, and Past President of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association, etc. He had served in the past as member of the Town Planning Board, Council for Sustainable Development, Advisory Council on the Environment and the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification. He was Sha Tin District Councilor for many years. His expertise and areas of service cover infrastructure, town planning, environment, housing, technology, industry, education and community service, etc.
