Chairman's Message

It is my great honour to be elected Chairman of the Environmental Division for the session 2026/2027. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all Past Chairmen/Chairladies for their outstanding leadership, as well as to our committee members, co-opt members and helpers for their significant contributions to the Division. In particular, I extend my sincere thanks to the Immediate Past Chairman, Ir Professor Kaimin Shih, for his dedication and exceptional leadership, which brought about remarkable achievements over the past year. My gratitude also goes to all retiring committee members for their invaluable service and commitment.

The environmental landscape is evolving rapidly, and our profession must adapt to meet new realities. Beyond traditional responsibilities, engineers are now expected to anticipate emerging risks, design resilient systems, and integrate sustainability into every facet of practice. At the same time, digital innovation and artificial intelligence are reshaping how we plan, monitor, and deliver solutions. These changes demand not only technical expertise but also creativity, collaboration, and a willingness to embrace new ways of working.

In the year ahead, the Division will continue to organise a diverse range of activities, including our annual forum, reception, seminars, technical visits, and collaborative events with other professional bodies. These platforms will foster interdisciplinary exchange, nurture young engineers, and strengthen our collective capacity to tackle pressing environmental issues. We will also expand our engagement with stakeholders across government, industry, and academia to support Hong Kong’s sustainability goals and contribute to the city’s journey toward carbon neutrality.

The passion and commitment of our members remain the Division’s greatest asset. With your active participation, we will drive positive transformation in the environmental service industry and uphold the proud tradition of excellence within HKIE. Together, let us continue to engineer a sustainable future for Hong Kong and beyond. Thank you for your continued support.
