Call for Application for Sponsorship 9th International Symposium for Geotechnical Safety and Risk 2025, Oslo, Norway 25-28th August 2025 and 2nd Joint HK-Norway Geotechnics Workshop, 29th August 2025, Oslo, Norway

Introduction

The 9th International Symposium for Geotechnical Safety and Risk (ISGSR2025) and the 2nd Joint HK-Norway Geotechnics Workshop will be held in Oslo, Norway from 25-28th August 2025 and on 29 August 2025 respectively. They are two separate events.

The theme of ISGSR 2025 is “Geotechnical Risk Frontiers” and will feature the latest research developments and innovations in engineering practice with a focus on the use of probabilistic and risk methodologies in geotechnical engineering. ISGSR 2025 will consist of keynote lectures, technical sessions, and forums covering but not limited to the following topics:

  • Geohazards such as landslides, dams and levees, tsunami, snow avalanches, earthquakes, and geoenvironmental hazards including those caused by human activity
  • Digital soil and rock databases and their use in geotechnical research and practice
  • Probabilistic site characterization
  • Modelling of spatial variability and effects on geotechnical design
  • Reliability- and risk-based code developments
  • Uncertainty quantification for geotechnical properties, models and testing methods
  • Bayesian statistical methods and their applications in geotechnical engineering
  • Machine Learning algorithms and their applications in geotechnical engineering
  • Best practices of hazard and risk assessment in offshore projects
  • Risk management and mitigation measures in all fields of geoengineering

For the 2nd Joint HK-Norway Geotechnics Workshop, one-day event (separated from ISGSR 2025) will feature a series of expert presentations from renowned geotechnical specialists in Hong Kong and Nordic countries, offering insights into the latest research, methods, and case studies. The workshop also aims to encourage in-depth technical discussion on current challenges and spark international collaboration in geotechnical engineering. Please note that this workshop is held at the same venue as ISGSR2025, but it is a separate event. The event registration and the tickets are sold as standalone options through the ISGSR2025 registration system.

Details for these events shall be referred to the website: ISGSR 2025 – ISGSR 2025
and ISGSR 2025 – The Joint HK-Norway Geotechnics Workshop
