to recognize geotechnical, study, research or project work with significant contributions to the advancement of the geotechnical practice in Hong Kong
FUGRO PRIZE 2025/2026 – CALL FOR PAPERS
The Fugro Prize is established and organized by the Geotechnical Division of the HKIE with the very generous support of Fugro (Hong Kong) Limited to promote and encourage our young geotechnical engineers in Hong Kong to recognize geotechnical, study, research or project work with significant contributions to the advancement of the geotechnical practice.
The prize is an annual award for the author(s) of the best papers in geo-data, geotechnical and or geo-environmental engineering. The Fugro Prize Winner will receive an award of HK$10,000 and a winner trophy; the First and Second Runners-up will receive an award of HK$6,000 and HK$4,000 respectively, plus a trophy.
Scope and Eligibility
All classes of the HKIE members at or under the age of 35 on 1st January 2026 are eligible. Authors may also submit papers jointly but limited to a maximum of two eligible authors per paper. Papers relating to research, engineering works, and student projects that contribute to geo-data, geotechnical or geo-environmental practices in Asia Pacific countries are all eligible.
Criteria of Award
Papers shall be prepared in accordance with a specified format, which can be downloaded from the Geotechnical Division web site, with a size not more than 8-page and be able to support a presentation in 15 minutes. The papers selected for the award are based on the scientific or technical merits, creativity and originality of the papers as well as their potential contribution to geo-data and/or geotechnical and/or geo-environmental practices in Asia Pacific countries.
Procedure of Selection
Authors who would like to take part in the competition for the award are required to submit on or before 30
November 2025:-
(a) The full paper with a synopsis in digital PDF format, and
(b) Details of the author(s), including age, HKIE membership number, and contact details to the Division’s Prize and Award

The papers submitted for consideration will be short-listed according to the criteria set down by a judging panel established by the Geotechnical Division Committee. Authors of the short-listed papers will be invited to make a presentation at a Technical Meeting of the Geotechnical Division to be held in early 2026. At the meeting, the judging panel will select the winners based on both the quality of the papers and the presentations.
