HKIE Geotechnical Division 40th Annual Seminar 2020 – Call for Abstracts!

The HKIE Geotechnical Division 40th Annual Seminar, 2020

“Geotechnical Engineering Excellence and Essentials – Quality Assurance for Design and Construction”

Call for Abstracts

Date & Venue

22 May 2020, Theatre 1, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wanchai, Hong Kong

Theme

Hong Kong’s reputation for engineering excellence is not earned with ease. It demands a concerted effort from all practitioners to safeguard the standard of quality of our works in a sustained manner. In geotechnical engineering, quality works entail many aspects, including investigation, testing, design, construction, use of materials, supervision and monitoring. The areas for consideration are not only limited to concepts, approaches and methodologies, but also other broader perspectives such as buildability, sustainability, safety and health, life cycle process, etc. The effectiveness of a quality assurance system and associated measures is also essential. Recent innovations and advancements in technologies such as numerical modelling methods, remote sensing, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) can provide accessible tools to enhance the quality of our works to a greater extent.

With the theme of “Geotechnical Engineering Excellence and Essentials – Quality Assurance for Design and Construction”, the HKIE Geotechnical Division 40th Annual Seminar enables us to review and present the achievements that we have made so far. It also provides a platform for our practitioners to share their ideas and experiences, with the aim of generating useful insights from the geotechnical profession to pursue higher goals and meet new challenges.

Topics Relevant to the Theme

Members, practitioners and academics (including geotechnical/civil/structural engineers) are invited to contribute on topics and cases relevant to the theme, such as:
i) Advances in geohazard investigation and mitigation
ii) Innovation and improvement in geotechnical design
