The HKIE Civil,
Geotechnical and Materials Divisions, in conjunction with the Standing
Committee of Concrete Technology of the HKSAR Government, will hold the Annual
Concrete Seminar on 26 August 2022. With the theme on “Low
Carbon Concrete on the Move”, the event aims to advocate wider adoption of
low carbon concrete in Hong Kong and share the latest advances in technologies
in producing low carbon concrete for various applications. This is to
echo Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2030+ and 2050, setting out targets for
carbon reduction and achieving carbon neutrality. Construction is a major
activity supporting the economic development of Hong Kong, and hence has an
indispensable role in achieving this net zero carbon goal. As a huge
amount of concrete is needed for our construction, there is a genuine need to
promote the use of low carbon concrete.
As part of the
Seminar, a pre-event activity called “Low Carbon Concrete Trophy Competition
2022” will be held. The competition aims to seek good ideas in cost
effective concrete mix designs with significant carbon emission reduction
compared with OPC concrete with the same design strength and workability.
Entry for the competition should be made under either the Students
Category or the Practitioners Category. Details of the competition are
given in the attached flyer and rule book. The prize presentation
ceremony of the competition will be arranged at the Annual Concrete Seminar.
The Low Carbon
Concrete Trophy Competition is now open for registration. Practitioners are welcome to form teams to
join the competition. Grateful if you could forward this email to your
colleagues for their information and consideration.
