Theme: “Elevating
Geotechnical Excellence: Novel Practice and Innovative Solutions”.
The 2023 Policy Address
highlights a range of major development projects in Hong Kong, such as the
Northern Metropolis, the Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands, the Three Railways and
Three Major Roads proposals together with other railway, green mass transit and
road projects. These development projects, combined with other ongoing
projects, present significant prospects for the construction industry. They also
pose challenges such as timely completion of sheer number of projects for
increasing the housing supply and enhancing resilience of the city in the face
of climate change. Geotechnical engineers, plays a crucial role in ensuring the
smooth delivery and sustainability of these development projects, and it is
essential to continuously explore innovative ideas to push the boundaries of
excellence. The time is nigh for us to elevate the professionalism of
geotechnical engineers into new heights through fostering collaboration and
knowledge sharing. This seminar serves as a platform for practitioners and
academics to share novel practices and innovation solutions with an aim to
elevating geotechnical excellence.
