2026 Greater Bay Area Youth Academic Forum on Geotechnical Engineering “AI Empowered Low-Carbon Geotechnics and Urban Regeneration” (2026年度粵港澳大灣區岩土工程青年學術論壇–人工智能賦能低碳岩土與城市更新建設)

The HKIE Geotechnical Division, as a supporting organisation, participated in the 2026 Greater Bay Area Youth Academic Forum on Geotechnical Engineering, themed “AI Empowered Low-Carbon Geotechnics and Urban Regeneration” (2026年度粵港澳大灣區岩土工程青年學術論壇–人工智能賦能低碳岩土與城市更新建設), held in Foshan from 28 to 29 August 2026. The delegation, comprising over 30 young professionals, was led by the Division Chairman Ir Alvin Lam, joined by Immediate Past Chairman Ir Terence Yau and Deputy Chairman Ir Roy Hung and coordinated by Honorary Secretary Ir Prof Warren Dou. The forum provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and experience sharing on the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering, particularly the integration of artificial intelligence and digital technologies across the project lifecycle.

Key topics covered during the forum included:

  1. Applications of AI and Big Data in Geotechnical Engineering
  2. Low-Carbon Geomaterials and Carbon Sequestration Technologies
  3. Intelligent Construction and Life-Cycle Health Monitoring of Underground Space
  4. Urban Infrastructure Resilience and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation under Extreme Climate Conditions
  5. New Advances and Challenges in Underground Space Development in the Greater Bay Area during the Urban Renewal Era

Three delegates from HKIE GE Division delivered well-received presentations. Ms. Saoirse Robin Goodwin examined AI applications to geotechnical problems; Ir Edward Zeng presented BIM technology in the Landslip Prevention and Mitigation Programme (LPMitP); and Mr. Dave Han shared the Central Kowloon Route central tunnel: complex geotechnical challenges in the heart of the city and the role of a systematic monitoring system.

Through active engagement with young professionals across the Greater Bay Area, the delegation exchanged ideas on advancing AI-empowered low-carbon geotechnics and urban regeneration, deepening professional knowledge and reinforcing regional collaboration.
