The Geotechnical Division is grateful to have successfully organized the Overseas Technical Visit to Singapore from 19 – 23 March 2023, which was our first overseas visit since the pandemic lockdown and subsequently attracted overwhelming responses. This delegation, comprised of 20 members from a strong and diversified background, was led by our current Session’s Chairman, Ir Dr Johnny Cheuk. The delegation visited the sites of the Deep Tunnel Sewage System (Stage 2) and the North-South Corridor Expressway, and learned about the associated geotechnical challenges and technical advancements from the projects teams. We also visited the Common Services Tunnel Network at Marina Bay which showcased the urban underground space planning in Singapore, as well as a MiC building site for housing development and apprehended the digital technologies adopted in the project. The delegation also had fruitful technical exchange with the Building and Construction Authority on topics such as safety risks for geotechnical building works and framework on observation method, the Urban Redevelopment Authority on Singapore’s land framework and underground space planning, the Geotechnical Society of Singapore on the latest advancements in geotechnology and geoscience, and the Nanyang Technological University on the latest geotechnical researches in Singapore.
