A virtual site visit to the Trunk Road T2 project was successfully held today (30/7) with massive support from over 1 000 online participants. The event was jointly organised by the HKIE Geotechnical Division, Geological Society of London, Hong Kong Geological Society and Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining. It is the 2nd virtual visit to this signature project, with focus on the challenging subsea tunnelling works by a pair of 14 m-diameter TBMs, named Victoria and Rhea respectively. Other innovative & smart technologies applied in this project, including Distributed Fibre Optic Sensing, LiDAR, GNSS, InSAR and the award-winning technique “3S Tunnel Defect Inspector”, were presented. All of us have learnt a lot through the interesting and detailed presentations made by the project team. Special thanks are given to the project client, East Development Office of CEDD, the consultant, Hyder-Meinhardt JV, and the contractor, Bouygues Travaux Publics. Also, we would like to express our appreciation of the RSS team’s thoughtful arrangement of the visit programme. We look forward to the successful accomplishment of the project! 😁👍🏻👷🏻♂️👷🏻
