Chairman's Message

It is a profound honour to serve as Chairman of the Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture, and Chemical (MMNC) Division for the 2026/2027 Session. I extend my deepest gratitude to our Past Chairmen, Committee Members, and all of you for your unwavering support, and I am eager to build upon the resilient foundation laid by our predecessors.

This year, the HKIE adopts the inspiring theme: “Connect Minds, and Empower Tomorrow” (匯聚智慧、創建明天). As engineers bridging four vital disciplines, we possess an unparalleled interdisciplinary capacity to embody this call to action. We are uniquely positioned to address the multifaceted challenges of our modern era—from advancing maritime innovation to optimizing smart manufacturing. Our goal is to translate this diverse expertise into “Synergy in Action”, supporting Hong Kong’s transition toward a resilient society.

To achieve this, our strategy aligns the Institution’s three core pillars with actionable division goals:

• Sustainability as our Responsibility: The MMNC Division will actively champion climate resilience, decarbonization, and innovations in energy efficiency. By integrating sustainable practices across our disciplines, we will lead the transition toward a greener future.
• Evolution through Technical Excellence: We must embrace rapid advancements in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Through a robust calendar of high-quality technical seminars and site visits focusing on digital and sustainable solutions, we will equip our members to harness emerging technologies and remain at the forefront of an evolving global market.
• Engagement and Connectivity: We are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive community. We will strengthen professional connectivity by enhancing collaborations with industry partners and promoting ESG excellence within the Greater Bay Area and internationally. Concurrently, we will cultivate the next generation through STEM initiatives, mentorship programs, and project competitions, ensuring the long-term vitality of our profession.

None of this can be accomplished in isolation. Together, by connecting our minds and sharing our collective wisdom, we can empower tomorrow’s engineering landscape. I look forward to an inspiring and productive year ahead.
