Establishment of The Engineering Society of Hong Kong to bring together engineers from different Disciplines for their common good
The Society amalgamated with the Hong Kong Joint Group of the Institutions of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of London
The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers was incorporated under The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Ordinance, Chapter 1105 of the Laws of Hong Kong
Started a new chapter of collaboration with the Mainland by signing a reciprocal recognition agreement with the Federation of Engineering Societies – Chinese Association for Science & Technology in Beijing
Admitted to the Washington Accord as one of the signatories. HKIE-accredited engineering degree programmes are recognised internationally by the other signatories to the Accord
Became a founding member of the International Professional Engineering Agreement (IPEA)*, which provides a framework for the recognition of professional engineers by each of the signatory economy

Became a founding member of the APEC Engineer Framework. Registered Professional Engineers (R.P.E.) in Hong Kong are eligible to register as Hong Kong APEC Engineers
Admitted to the Sydney Accord as one of the founding signatories. Under this Accord, higher diplomas and equivalent programmes accredited by the HKIE are recognised by all other signatories to the Accord
Became a founding member of the International Engineering Technologist Agreement (IETA), which facilitates multilateral recognition of technologists’ qualifications in each of the signatory economy

Admitted to the Seoul Accord as a full signatory. The computer science degree programmes accredited by the HKIE are recognised by other signatories
Rollout of the Time to Change Roadmap, a 5-year strategic initiative to rejuvenate and modernise the Institution
One of the founding organisations of the GBA Federation of Engineering Organisations.
207 HKIE members became the first batch of engineering professionals to pass the GBA Engineering Professional Title Evaluation, obtaining the corresponding mainland engineering Professional Titles.
