The HKIE International Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2026

We are pleased to announce an extension of the submission deadline for the HKIE International Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2026. For over 20 years, The HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers has recognised exceptional contributions from the next generation of engineering talent. This year, we are thrilled to rename and elevate the Award to The HKIE International Outstanding Paper Award to better reflect its growing international recognition and appeal. We are cordially invite you to share your groundbreaking research.

Eligibility

Sole or first author of a co-authored paper (local or overseas), aged 35 or below on the closing date of submission.

Submission

  • All submissions should be original works and have not been published previously or under consideration for publication.
  • All paper submissions should be written in English.

Prizes

  • Up to three Awards will be given.
  • Each awarded paper will be awarded a plaque, certificate(s) and a cash prize in a total amount of HK$5,000.  Awards will be presented at the prize presentation ceremony in Hong Kong tentatively scheduled for September 2026 (final arrangements to be confirmed).
  • A public lecture will be held in Hong Kong for the sole or first authors of the awarded papers to present their research accomplishments in Q4 2026 (final arrangements to be confirmed).
  • Publication of the awarded and merit papers in the Award Issue of the HKIE Transactions in December 2026.

Judging Criteria

All submissions will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Innovation and originality;
  • Impact and significance;
  • Presentation including paper organisation, methodology, critical analysis, quality, style, sources and language use

Selection Process

  • Each paper will be reviewed by two referees assigned by the judge of the respective discipline of the Panel of Judges. 
  • Papers might be further reviewed by the panel of judges for consideration.
  • The panel of Judges will conclude the final results.

  • Each entry should be submitted via the HKIE Transactions ScholarOne Manuscripts site at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/thie New users should first create an account and make submission via the Author Centre.

  • All submissions should be submitted together with a completed Application Form via the HKIE Transactions ScholarOne Manuscripts site.

Results Announcement

  • The list of awarded paper(s) will be announced through the HKIE website. Awardee(s) will be notified individually.
  • The awarded sole or first author(s) will be invited to attend the prize presentation ceremony.
  • Arrangements will be made for the awarded sole or first author(s) to speak at the public lecture which will be held in Hong Kong.
  • Additional information including the CV, biography and photo of the author(s), has to be submitted for publishing in the Award Issue of the HKIE Transactions.

Remarks

  1. Both HKIE members and non-HKIE members are welcome to submit papers to the captioned Award.
  2. In the event of extension of submission deadline, the age requirement based on the original closing date of submission remains unchanged.
  3. The applicant who completes, submits and signs the application form will be acknowledged as the sole or first author of the submitted paper.
  4. The panel of judges of the Award reserves all rights regarding the final decision including the right not to make any award. The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
