Introduction

Social Accountability 8000 (SA 8000®) is the first global standard for ethical sourcing which is applicable to most industries worldwide. The Standard was initially published in October 1997 by Social Accountability International SAI (previously called CEPAA). “The SA8000 Standard, established by SAI and one of the world’s preeminent social standards, is a tool for implementing international labor standards to protect workers along each step of the supply chain.” It sets out specific auditable provisions regarding child labor, forced labor, health and safety, trade union rights, discrimination, disciplinary practices, compensation, working hours and management system.
