Women in Engineering (WIE)

Ir Sally Leung, Chairlady of the WiE for Session 2026/2027

It is my honour to serve as Chairlady of the WiE for Session 2026/2027. I am grateful for the golden opportunity to lead a Committee dedicated to advancing the participation, visibility and leadership of women engineers across Hong Kong. Guided by the President’s theme,“Connect Minds, Empower Tomorrow (匯聚智慧、創建明天)”, the WiE will continue to foster an inclusive, supportive and forward looking environment that empowers female engineers at every stage of their professional journey.

The Committee’s 2026/2027 plan brings together advocacy, professional development, international collaboration and community engagement. Throughout the year, WiE will strengthen public recognition of women engineers through the International Women’s Day Campaign, showcasing diverse career journeys and leadership stories. Our flagship International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) Networking Dinner will connect HKIE members, industry leaders, academia, students and community partners, creating a vibrant platform for cross sector exchange and collaboration. Regionally, WiE will form an official delegation to participate in WiSET 2026 in Malaysia, reinforcing HKIE’s commitment to international connectivity and broadening members’ exposure to global women in engineering initiatives.

To support member growth, the WiE will host Leaders Sharing Workshops, offering practical insights on leadership, communication, career development and professional presence. Our digital communication channels will highlight and record events hold and activities to be conducted. Beyond the Institution, the WiE will encourage female engineers to participate in community service, charity events, judging panels and outreach activities, reinforcing the social value of engineering and strengthening stakeholder relationships. The Committee will also explore supporting the EngSeeds (工程 Seeds) programme by studying the feasibility of a mentorship framework for senior secondary students, nurturing future talent and inspiring young women to consider engineering as a meaningful career.

The advancement of women in engineering is a collective mission. I invite all HKIE members, partners and friends of the Institution to join us in shaping a connected, empowered and inclusive engineering community. Together, we will continue to elevate the influence and impact of women engineers and contribute to the sustainable development of Hong Kong’s engineering profession.
